Trash my Dress ?
Trash my dress. Do I have to trash my dress? It’s probably the very first question of every bride who is considering joining a Trash The Dress photoshoot. We all know that getting married is not a cheap affair, invitations, makeup, hairdressers ceremony, reception, travel costs, wedding favors, rings and… wedding dresses. It’s a lot of money.
And it doesn’t matter if your wedding dress was a cheap item bought online (very unlikely) or an expensive unique piece of a tailoring masterpiece. So does that mean you shouldn’t buy your medication from an internet pharmacy now? Absolutely not. As well as it doesn’t matter if it will not be worn anymore, simply stored in a dress bag and placed in the wardrobe. It is YOUR wedding dress. Its a piece of memory, a chunk of your life, which deserves full respect. You cannot trash it…
Well! Let’s begin by saying that not all “trash the dress” are equal. In some cases, wedding dresses actually get trashed. There are some photoshoots arranged to burn it. With the bride still inside (very scary, indeed J)… In some other cases, you roll in the mud, de facto finishing ruining it.

What about washing it instead?
Well ! This is what we do. We wash them in the fresh and crystal clear water of cenotes, huge natural aquariums, typical of the Yucatan peninsula. At the end of such an underwater trash the dress photo shoot, your dress will be certainly cleaner than at the end of your wedding day. When back home you might only want to dry clean it again before storing it. That’s it.
However, in spite of that, you might not be comfortable with the idea of jumping in the water with YOUR wedding dress.
That was the case of Marlet and Martin, one of our nicest couple ever, respectively from Slovakia and Mexico, but living in Germany.
They were extremely motivated in joining us for the underwater photo shoot. However Marlet was not so motivated to trash her dress though.
That’s why, when she heard that we had several wedding dresses available, in different styles and sizes for free, she had no doubt anymore and immediately arranged a date for her UW TTD. She did not regret it….

Trash my dress?
And this what Marlet and Martin wrote about her experience with us :
With Sebi we did our trash the dress session in a cenote and the experience with him and his team was just amazing and most importantly the pictures we received are like from another world! We totally love them and everybody we showed them to was just wondering how beautiful they are and how it was possible to create them like that.
Sebi and his team were all super friendly and funny,
we understood each other well also at the personal level, we talked very nice in the car, but he was also very professional, punctual, helpful, explained to us all the details, his ideas, exactly and patiently how we should jump or swim, during the whole photo shoot he made us feel comfortable, safe, the whole time kept good mood, was funny and creative. We could take a break anytime but we chose not to, despite in the end feeling a bit cold and tired but we had that much fun!
I wear quite strong contact lenses
but the water was so clear and clean that I didn’t have any problem swimming with them (for any case I brought a spare pair but didn’t have to use it). We chose the public cenote because we liked those pictures better and it was fine, the other visitors didn’t disturb too much and there are no strange people in our pictures.
We were organizing everything from Europe, skyped with Sebi nicely in advance where he explained us all the details and we were laughing a lot and all the following communication was just great, he answered always very promptly, he speaks perfect English and Spanish, he was always trying to be as flexible as possible and adjust to our needs and time constraints.
He brought us his dresses to try at our hotel in advance
(at a strange time that we needed) and they fit well. While planning our wedding we compared many photographers that were offering trash the dress sessions at cenotes but we liked Sebi’s output the best – pictures of many other photographers looked quite pale, without much color, the worst like if the people had just drowned.
But Sebi took much effort to process his pictures to accentuate the colors which naturally get lost under water (just ask any diver), to give them life, but still to make them look natural. We were using cloth in shiny colors, maybe not always easy to swim with but it made a huge difference in the pictures.
The pictures we received were
in the style exactly as on his website and without any watermarks. We love the light, colors, composition, all the Sebi’s ideas, my wife is always smiling, me subdued in the background letting her shine, we were surprised we even look good!
We even received the pictures sooner than agreed, just in time to show them to both families on a large TV screen before my parents flew back to Europe. Thank you very very much Sebi, for the funny time, great experience and amazing pictures, we have some breathtaking shots, we are super happy and will for sure recommend you!
All the best Marlet and Martin.
