No vendor fee wedding in Mexico
an easy way to avoid vendor fees and reduce the cost of your wedding
We are all aware that most resorts here in the Riviera Maya charge a vendor fee, every time a bride wishes to use a different company, other than the ones available “inside” the resort itself. This happens for florists, DJs, makeup artists, hairdressers and – last but not least – photographers and videographers.

In the beginning, it was just a sort of a soft corkage fee. At the end of the day, we all live in a free market and resorts are simply trying to sell their own products. Who can blame them for that? Therefore, whenever a bride decides to hire her vendors somewhere else, it is obvious for her that she will be charged a vendor fee. Period.

Question: How high can a vendor fee be? Is there a limit or pain threshold which should not be trespassed?
Answer: No!
Consequently, in the last years, the above mentioned, soft corkage fee progressively turned into something more and more expensive. And many resorts began changing their fee policy, increasing from 200 to 1.000 USD, or even more!
Question: Are resorts unfair due to their policy?
Answer: No, they are not.
They are simply basing their choices on the law of supply and demand. As long they will get bookings and a good occupancy rate, there is no reason to be cheaper. So, they will comprehensibly keep increasing their fares (and vendor fees) if the bookings continue. Trade is not based on philanthropy.
Should we be ready to face a 2.000 USD vendor fee in the next future then?
Probably not, since a mild countertendency is gradually catching on.

A workaround
In fact, always more brides are beginning to arrange their wedding in an offsite venue. And always more offsite venues are gradually being born. The needle of the supply-demand ratio slowly moves…
Is there any downside when getting married somewhere else than in your resort?
Oh yes! Probably just a couple.
The first one is certainly moving the whole group from the resort to the venue. And back.
Secondly – although it’s not a must – one could book a night somewhere else, and having the Getting Ready there, with the makeup company and hairstylist attending to you there.
Benefits?
You will finish off saving money.
How much?
It depends on how high the vendor fee in your resort is and on how many different offsite companies (florists, DJs, makeup artists, hairdressers, photographers and videographers) you were supposed to hire.

More or less, that’s what Claire and Ed – a really amazing couple from the UK – did.
The whole group were staying in a resort of the Riviera Maya, with high vendor fees. Their workaround was hiring an Airbnb for 1-night for the bride and bridesmaids, which was perfect for the Getting Ready the next day.
And that’s where we began with the photography and video, together with the make-up artist and the hairdresser. Then we all moved to a venue south to Playa del Carmen, for the ceremony and the reception. On the spot, further outsourced vendors included the florist, the DJ, and the Mariachi.
None of the guests seemed to be missing the 5 stars resort.

Last but not least, this is what the lovely Claire (who turned into a friend in the space of a single day) wrote about her experience with us on WeddingWire.
Only regret, there was no time for an Underwater Trash The Dress, but she will be back soon to Mexico. And we will be happy welcoming her again.
Here is what she wrote about us.
Amazing! Would recommend to anyone wanting artistic shots of their wedding day.
From the minute Sebi and his team arrived they were so professional. My bridesmaids all said it felt like I was marrying someone famous! They put us all at ease, and the results are phenomenal.
Every single person has complimented me on our photos, and I couldn’t be happier with them. My only problem now is narrowing them down to which ones will go on the wall!
