TRASH THE DRESS CANCUN
Kamela was an extraordinary bride, both during her wedding and Trash The Dress. The first took place at Dreams Riviera Cancun, one of the most popular hotels for destination weddings, located in the Riviera Maya about 20 miles south of Cancun, and near the small town of Puerto Morelos. A short selection of the photos from that day can be found here Dreams Cancun Wedding – Kamela and Matt.
And two days after the wedding we organized the Underwater Trash The Dress, in a cenote located halfway between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, about an hour’s drive from the hotel.
The whole Riviera Maya is full of cenotes, usually very close to the freeway that runs from Cancun down to Tulum and beyond.
And a short distance from Puerto Morelos, and therefore also from Dreams Riviera Cancun, there is the so-called “Ruta de los cenotes”.
These are beautiful cenotes that we visited one by one. Some are real wells, seemingly bottomless; others are cylindrical outdoor formations full of vegetation. Both types are perfect for recreational purposes, and if you happen to be passing by, we recommend that you visit at least a few.
However, they are not the best option for our type of photography.
A few tens of miles further south, past Playa del Carmen, where the density of the cenotes increases, there are much more beautiful ones.
Some are very complex formations, often joined by a network of underwater tunnels. And they are truly a paradise for cave divers.
Others, on the other hand, bring together a whole series of requirements that make them perfect for our underwater photography sessions. The criteria for which we choose them are :
- their not excessive depth
- the lighting
- the transparency of the water,
- the surrounding vegetation out of the water,
- the minimum underwater vegetation possible
- the number of good spots for photography
- and therefore of poses that can be made there.
For this reason, even when our couples are staying closer to Cancun, we always prefer to travel a few more miles but have the best possible conditions for our photography.
Needless to say, we are continuously looking for new cenotes that will help us find new ideas, spots, poses, and possible compositions.

These are the reviews Kamela and Matt left about their experience with Sebi Messina Photography
On Weddingwire – Sebi’s team are not only professionals in their craft but become advocates for what you want to capture for your wedding. He communicates via email and Skype prior to meeting you in person before your wedding date to ensure he understands what you want. His style is unique and beautiful. His underwater shooting is among the very best out there (I challenge you to find underwater pictures with greater clarity). I highly recommend Sebi and Yadira :-)
On Facebook – We decided to hire Sebi for our wedding in Mexico and also an Underwater Trash The Dress shoot two days later. BOTH sets of photos turned out perfect. During the wedding, Sebi worked his ass off to get all the shots he and I had discussed prior and he knew I wanted. During the TTD shoot, he was so easy to work with and I think we both had a blast! I recommend Sebi and his team if you want to get photos that your friends claim “you need to blow that up and put in on your wall” for half the photos!
