Sharlene can certainly be counted among the most beautiful models we have ever worked with for an underwater cenote photoshoot.
Beyond her undeniable physical appearance, which certainly represents an added value, we must mention her great ability to pose even though – as far as we know – she has never had any experience in modeling, much less underwater. It could be said that if you like yourself, there is nothing that can stop you from overcoming a challenge. Whatever it may be.
I say this because in the cover photo on her Facebook profile you can see her on the wing of a biplane while trying the incredible experience of “Wing walking”, which surely requires a certain amount of courage and love for adrenaline rushes.
But don’t worry, an underwater cenote photoshoot is something within everyone’s reach. Suffice it to say that quite often we even happen to deal with non-swimmers who, with a few small tricks, are able to complete the underwater modeling session very easily.
We have been doing underwater cenote photoshoots since 2013, which is the year we moved to Mexico from old Europe. In the beginning, most of our sessions were mainly the Underwater Trash The Dress. That is, newlywed couples who a few days after the wedding, wearing the same wedding dress, try the seemingly irreverent experience of diving into the water and participating in an underwater cenote photoshoot. But often we also have couples who celebrate their engagement or anniversary with underwater photos. Not too different is the underwater cenote photo shoot for pregnant women (underwater maternity) who alone or with their partner are portrayed in those beautiful days when they are expecting a child.
For several years now, there has been a steady increase in the number of single women who try the experience of underwater modeling in the cenote. Among them, there are often Afro-American women who, after seeing the photos of those who have already done it, decide without hesitation to include an underwater cenote photoshoot in their quick vacations, in the area of Tulum or Playa del Carmen.
But what does it take to be able to participate in an underwater photoshoot in a cenote?
I would say that the first thing is the desire to have an unforgettable experience, which is difficult to have in other places than that portion of the coast normally known as Riviera Maya, which extends from Cancun to Tulum.
It is there that the most beautiful cenotes are located. They are a true geological wonder typical of the Yucatan Peninsula, a sort of underground web of cave formations and tunnels through which flows crystal clear water, essential for this type of photography.
And what else is needed to be photographed underwater?
You need to wear a bikini or a swimsuit. But you can still add a dress in which you feel comfortable (we provide some for free) and that is possibly long and flowing. However, we are always willing to discuss with you any ideas or elements you would like to include in the photoshoot.
In Sharlene’s case, since it was a birthday, we brought a fake submersible cake, as well as numbers corresponding to her age, plus a series of various props that we always add to our underwater cenote photoshoots.
Having said that, on the day of the shoot, our task will be to take you to your comfort zone so that you can bring out the best in yourself.
To do this, we always give you as much time as you need before we start shooting. We do it next to a ladder, where you will start without any hesitation to feel comfortable underwater. Normally about ten minutes is enough time for this to happen, although from time to time someone looks like a born mermaid and is immediately ready to start, while someone else needs a few more minutes. In any case, we adapt to your skills and start with the photoshoot only when you feel ready and ask us to do so.
Depending on the skills of each of our models we will then start with a certain number of poses favoring the easier ones for non-swimmers and the more challenging ones for the more talented girls.
Only by doing this, you will be able to give the best of yourself.
