Underwater Trash The Dress
“Were you really underwater?” This is perhaps the most frequently asked question to our couples when they show our “Trash The Dress” photos to their friends.
We do not feel like blaming them for a question that seems to be naive, but it is not. Because even if underwater photography is now widespread, amateur cameras level is the only reference point, most of the times.
Don’t get me wrong. Today these small and light cameras produce underwater photos with such a brilliant quality, which would have been unimaginable only a few years ago. However, there is a big difference between amateur and professional equipment, as well as between amateur and professional photos.
So, what makes an amateur camera different from a professional one, given that the former performs so well already?

Well. To explain it, we should move our discussion to a very technical level. We should talk about sensitivity, exposure, resolution, lenses, depth of field. In short, all the basic concepts of photography. But I’m afraid it would be boring for most of you.
Let’s stop on the meaning of the word “photography” instead. Where does it come from, and what does it mean exactly? Well! The term is made up of two Greek words: φῶς and γραφία, that is LIGHT and WRITING. So the somewhat poetic definition of photography is: writing with light.
It means that to take (or write) a photograph, we need light. And if we don’t have light, we can’t take (or write) a photo. Although it’s a simplification, let’s say that cameras can only take pictures with at least a certain amount of light. And with good lighting, even mobile phones take beautiful photos (really beautiful!)
But let’s move underwater now.
Photos taken on a sunny day and a few inches deep can be very nice, even if we use a small amateur camera. But water is much denser than air, it filters light and blocks some colours. And the greater the depth, the lesser the light, the worse the image quality!
Let’s go back again to our initial question: “Were you really underwater?”
Yes! They were.
And if their photos have vivid colours, correct exposure, incredible clarity, magical transparency that makes them seem to fly underwater… It is also thanks to professional and expensive equipment, whose most important quality (although not the only one) must be lowlight performance. Then comes all the rest, including a touch of experience acquired in many years spent photographing couples and models underwater.
Among them are Eva and Victor.
Both very young, they were perfect models. Eva was even one of the youngest brides we ever had. Her lightness, elegance, and grace were amazing even underwater.
We wish them the best.
